Release

In theory, letting go is simple. Loosen your grip and release. In real life, I find that is takes a consistent willingness to practice this until that muscle develops and the process becomes more natural.

Autumn has always been my favorite time of year. I love the vibrant changing leaves and am fascinated with the ease with which those trees let go of their plumage when it is time. No fuss. A breeze blows and more leaves are released. Trees don’t argue or refuse. I want to be that free and fluid. Letting go always creates a spaciousness for expansion, inviting in new energy.

I consciously began this letting go process with physical possessions, for there were few attachments. It was easier to discern whether I really needed that book, dish or whatever, or if it could go. It was a lot more complicated when I did a life review of my attachments – to my story, relationships, roles and beliefs. Slowly and bit by bit, literally over a few decades, I questioned everything. I was amazed at how much still needed to go, especially around my beliefs. This feels like a spiral, an ongoing process leading me to my true essence. I no longer resemble the woman I was ten years ago. And this feels amazing!

If you are struggling with this concept of releasing, I hope you will meet yourself with grace and start right where you are with very small steps. Find your rhythm, treat yourself with kindness and see where this crazy life adventure take you.
